Cape Town Eisteddfod
June 2009
This year Margie Sim entered eight Nyanga Sub-juniors and nine Juniors into the Cape Town Eisteddfod, held in Sea Point. We are very proud of the Sub-juniors, who won outright at the finals on 9 May 2009.

KKNK Kanna Awards

Xola Putye, a soloist with the Athlone-based Dance for All Youth Company, has been awarded a prestigious KKNK Kanna Award for Best Performance in Dance Theatre following this year's ABSA Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees which takes place annually in Oudtshoorn in the Cape.

Tour to New Zealand with Buskaid

Royal Ballet Charity Gala

The DFAYC was chosen to share the stage with dancers from the London Royal Ballet, including principal dancer Mara Galeazzi, for a Charity Gala at Artscape Opera House.

Four members of the DFA Youth Company performed with the Buskaid Soweto String Ensemble at the Royal Albert Hall in London for the famous Proms concert.

Cape Town Eisteddfod
May 2007
Margie Sim entered two groups of DFA students from the Junior and Senior Training Programmes into the Novice and Pre-Amateur sections of the Cape Town Eisteddfod. Both won the title of Best Group in their sections and Margie won the award for Best Group Choreography - 13 Years and Over for her Pre-Amateur section piece titled 'From the sunshine, through the rain, into the light'.

The DFA Dance Centre

DFA raised substantial funding to renovate a building in Athlone that is now its headquarters, complete with 3 dance studios - the DFA Dance Centre was officially opened by DFA's Honorary Life Patron Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu on 30 May 2007.

DFA received a platinum Impumelelo Innovations Award on 17 February 2007 at the City Hall in Cape Town, making history by becoming the first "arts and culture" project to win this award.

Cape Town Eisteddfod

Two groups from DFA's Junior Training Programme were entered in the Cape Town Eisteddfod. Both groups were awarded Diplomas and the 13 & Over group was outright winner in its section.

Formation of the Dance for All Youth Company

DFA formed the Dance for All Youth Company (DFAYC) with graduates of the Senior Training Programme. The DFAYC was officially launched at Artscape Theatre in November 2005 with a sold-out performance of 'Celebration'.
